The following are the major conditions or complications that may be contributed to by bacterial vaginosis (amine colpitis):
Certain conditions originating in the perinatal period (P00-P96).
Pregnancy, childbirth, and puerperium (O00-O99).
- Abortion (miscarriage)
- Amniotic infection syndrome (AIS) – infection of the egg cavity, placenta, membranes and possibly the fetus (unborn child) during pregnancy or birth, with a risk of sepsis (blood poisoning) for the child.
- Endometritis post partum – inflammation of the uterus after birth.
- Premature birth (2.4 times higher risk).
- Unspecified infections after abortion.
- Premature rupture of the membranes
- Premature labor
- Wound infections
Genitourinary system (kidneys, urinary tract – reproductive organs) (N00-N99)
- Woman
- Adnexitis (inflammation of the fallopian tube and ovary), especially in combination with an intrauterine device (IUD, coil)
- Endometritis (inflammation of the uterus).
- Urinary tract infection such as urethritis (inflammation of the urethra) or cystitis (inflammation of the urinary bladder).
- Unspecified bleeding abnormalities.
- Salpingitis (inflammation of the fallopian tubes)
- Male [infection is usually asymptomatic; 50-90%]
- Balanitis (acorn inflammation)
- Epididymitis (inflammation of the epididymis) (rare).
- Infertility (infertility) (rare).
- Prostatitis (inflammation of the prostate) (rare).
- Urethritis (inflammation of the urethra)
