Since no organs are removed during the gastric bypass operation, the artificially created gastrointestinal connection can be loosened and returned to its original conditions.However, this is a second, high-risk intervention, so the risk-benefit ratio must be carefully weighed. Whether this is sensible and when a medical indication for this exists must be discussed in detail with the treating surgeon.
