Course and prophylaxis

A blood pressure value below 120/80 mm Hg is an optimal value. Since the risk of cardiovascular disease doubles with every increase of 20/10 mmHg compared to the optimal value, the hypertensive person is strongly recommended to achieve a good blood pressure setting through general measures and medication. Through special training programs for patients with high blood pressure, they learn how to deal with their disease and receive guidance on how to integrate blood pressure-lowering measures into everyday life. In order to avoid organ damage and complications as a result of high blood pressure, intensive care by the family doctor and the motivation of the patient to follow the general measures and drug therapy (compliance) are necessary.
