Craniosacral therapy – all important information

Craniosacral therapy is a form of therapy that has its basic features from osteopathic treatment. It is about using gentle techniques to influence the flow of brain water, which also flows in our spinal canal. Also the position of the cranial plates can be influenced in the craniosacral therapy. The aim is to restore a steady cerebrospinal fluid flow (brain water) by, for example, releasing blockages in order to diagnose and positively influence functional disorders of the nervous system, fasciae, organs, bones, muscles and joints in particular.

Fields of application/effect

Craniosacral therapy is a particularly gentle form of therapy and can be used in every age group. It can even be used on newborns or premature babies, but also patients in old age can benefit from it.

  • By diagnosing and manipulating the rhythm and pulsation of the cerebrospinal fluid flow, the therapy can influence the entire organism.

The cerebrospinal fluid is responsible for supplying our central nervous system. By restoring an even rhythmic flow, tension and pain can be relieved, the immune system can be strengthened and the psyche and vegetative system can be influenced.

  • By harmonizing the cerebrospinal fluid flow, not only headaches such as migraine or tension headaches can be treated, but also pain in the joints or muscles, as well as back pain can be influenced by craniosacral therapy.
  • Craniosacral therapy can be used for stabilization after emotional and physical injuries. The patient can work on possibly suppressed topics by the craniosacral therapy and emotional blockades can be solved.

Among other things it comes thereby to violent vegetative and emotional outbreaks, which can be strenuous for the patient. After the therapy, however, a new balance can be found again.

  • Therefore craniosacral therapy is also suitable for stress management and regeneration (physical and mental). By the close connection between psyche and body the Craniosacrale therapy offers itself also very well for the treatment of psychosomatic problems.

A psychological support cannot be replaced completely, however. Also organic causes should be excluded of course before, or supplementing.

  • Craniosacral therapy can also be applied in the field of pediatrics. Especially premature babies can be supported in their development, the bond between parents and child can be improved and the therapy should help with attention disorders and hyperactivity as well as with dramaturia or drinking difficulties.
