Diagnosis
The term lumbago describes a severe, sudden pain in the area of the spine with restrictions in movement and, if necessary, limitations in sensation. However, this pain event does not represent a diagnosis per se, but is rather recognized as a harmless phenomenon on the basis of the clinical symptoms, or after other possible diagnoses have been excluded. When visiting the doctor, it is particularly important to provide an exact description of the symptoms with their occurrence, type, course and particularities in the patient’s medical history. If the physical examination is unclear, imaging techniques must be used for further diagnosis.
Duration of lumbago in the neck
The duration of lumbago in the neck, also called cervicalgia, varies from person to person. As an approximate guideline, however, a time window of two days can be set, beyond which the stabbing pain with the characteristic immobility should not exceed. For the next 48 hours, the affected person can still complain of severe pain in the neck, but the course of symptoms should be generally decreasing.
In complicated lumbago, the pain may persist for several weeks. Basically, the duration of recovery and the intensity of the pain depend on many factors such as other secondary diseases and the overall condition of the person. In case of uncertainties and prolonged symptoms, a doctor should definitely be consulted so that warning symptoms or complications can be recognized early enough.
Sometimes, however, it can happen that the symptoms last longer than usual and are prolonged without dangerous causes. In summary, it can be said about the duration of lumbago in the neck that at the most two days of extreme pain with movement restrictions occur, then at the most a few days the pain can continue to exist for a few days and, in complicated cases, can cause discreet discomfort for a few weeks.
