Diagnosis | Urachus fistula

Diagnosis

In addition to a physical examination, an ultrasound is usually performed if a urachus fistula is suspected. In the best case, the images show the persistent passage between the bladder and the navel. Occasionally, other imaging procedures are also used if the images produced by the ultrasound machine do not allow for a meaningful representation.

These procedures include, for example, the injection of contrast medium into the urethra followed by an X-ray examination. Furthermore, in the case of a weeping navel, the escaping fluid can also be examined for certain urinary tract components. If these are present, a leakage of urine through a remaining urinary outlet is considered probable.
