Definition

Ear acupuncture is a completely different treatment concept than body acupuncture. Unlike the latter, which has been practiced in China for many thousands of years, ear acupuncture is a European and relatively recent discovery. It goes back to the French doctor Dr. Paul Nogier and is therefore often called French ear acupuncture.

After its development in 1951, Nogier presented his method at an acupuncture congress five years later. At that time, Nogier discovered a small burn injury in a patient’s ear and learned that in the case of an acute sciatica (the most powerful nerve in the body, which can cause severe pain when injured, e.g. by being pinched or compressed by an intervertebral disc), the man visited a shepherd who stabbed him in the ear with a red-hot needle. This supposedly made him painless.

Fortunately, Nogier was not one of those doctors who simply dismiss knowledge from folk medicine as irrelevant. He went into the matter and discovered that the point on the body where the shepherd had pricked the ear was exactly where the sciatic nerve, which was responsible for the patient’s pain, exited the spinal cord. Nogier and his colleagues now concentrated on examining the ear and discovered the entire somatotopy of the auricle.

They were able to prove that the entire body projects into the pinna and that every part of the body, be it bones, joints, muscles, nerves, arteries or internal organs has a projection point on the ear. In addition, one can also find projection points for interference fields, deficiencies (vitamins and trace elements) and even emotional derailments (depression, anger, jealousy, anxiety). If one part of the body becomes diseased, a so-called ear acupuncture point develops on the ear, which differs from the rest of the skin in various ways.

Often it is not bigger than the tip of a needle. In contrast to the body acupuncture point, which is always detectable, an ear acupuncture point is only created when a body part is disturbed in its function. For this reason, a very precise diagnosis can be made via the ear. If you project the image of an embryo in a crouched position, head down into the ear, you will find that the ear reflex points correspond to the organs and body parts of the embryo.
