How are diseases of the navel treated?

All problems of the navel can be successfully treated and thus eliminated by surgery. In the case of an umbilical cord hernia, it should be noted that birth is by means of a caesarean section to prevent rupture of the contents of the hernia and thus a very dangerous situation. Subsequently, an operation should be performed as early as possible so that the contents of the hernia can be returned to the intestine and the abdominal wall can be closed.

An umbilical hernia is treated in a similar way. As a rule, it can only be controlled with an operation, because it is difficult to reposition the leaked intestine due to adhesions in the umbilical region and because there is a risk of trapping the intestinal segment. Firstly, this is very painful and secondly, the intestine can die at this point, which is a very dangerous situation.

This operation is a minor procedure where a general anaesthetic is not absolutely necessary and can be performed on an outpatient basis. A navel fistula must also be surgically cut out, because otherwise recurrent inflammation can occur. In the presence of an uracic fistula, surgical removal is highly recommended, since in addition to a permanent risk of inflammation, there is also a high risk of malignant degeneration, i.e. the development of cancer.

Navel itches – is that a sign of pregnancy?

An itchy navel is a common symptom during pregnancy. However, the itching is caused by the increased tension of the skin, which in turn only occurs from a significantly increased abdominal girth. The probability that an itchy belly button indicates pregnancy is therefore very low, as this would already be known.

Only an itchy belly button would therefore be more likely to indicate a rash, allergy, insect bite, inflammation or umbilical hernia. If, however, you are pregnant, regular application of cream to the belly button will help.
