Indications | Lactate Performance Diagnostics

Indications

Nowadays, lactate performance diagnostics is mainly used when working with athletes, especially those in the endurance sector. It provides information about the current training status and can indicate in the course of time whether a training session could lead to an increase in performance. With the help of the lactate test, individual training intensity ranges can be defined and load recommendations for endurance training can be given. For certain questions, it is advisable to combine lactate performance diagnostics with a spiroergometric examination in which respiratory gases and volumes are also measured. Such a combination is often useful, especially in everyday clinical life far away from sports medicine.

Contraindications

Since lactate performance diagnostics is associated with considerable physical strain, there are some diseases for which its performance is contraindicated. These include acute myocardial infarction, an infection such as pneumonia, severe narrowing of the aortic valve (aortic valve stenosis), acute respiratory failure and thrombosis, for example in the deep veins of the legs.

Termination criteria

For the protection of the test person, when performing the lactate test attention should be paid to certain signs that indicate that the body is overstrained. These include:

  • Cardiac arrhythmias
  • Signs of reduced blood flow (ischemia) of the heart in the ECG
  • A feeling of tightness in the chest (angina pectoris)
  • Dizziness and cold sweat
  • An insufficient rise or sudden sharp drop in blood pressure.
