Inflammation of the tibialis posterior tendon

The M. tibialis posterior is a muscle on the anterior lower leg. It runs from the tibia to the foot and is responsible for various movements in the ankle. Overloading during sports can lead to inflammation in the tendon area (tendinitis).

Signs of inflammation are pain when moving the ankle joint. Pressure pain in the area of the tendon is also typical. Chronic inflammation can also cause redness and swelling.

The inflammation is treated by sparing the tendon. Taking pain-relieving and anti-inflammatory medication can also be helpful. In the long term, the use of shoe insoles (orthoses) or bandages can help to prevent further tendon inflammation.
