Knee Pain: Exercise and Enzymes Help

Especially young people who are active in sports often complain about knee pain. Typical triggers are climbing stairs (the knee joint has to bear eight times the weight when climbing stairs), running downhill or sports activities that involve straining in a deep squat position, but also long periods of sitting.

Cycling can lead to knee pain

When cycling, the knee joint is primarily stressed by high levels of force applied when cycling uphill or excessive “pedaling into the pedals.” In what is known as “runners knee,” the pain is not due to a defective knee, but to shortened muscles in the pelvic area and the ischium.

Physiotherapy instead of frog jumps

In most cases, knee surgery is not necessary at all; it is often enough to limit the pain-triggering loads to a large extent. This includes, for example, outdated training methods in the squat position, for example, the duck walk, frog jumps, squats with weights, because they exert a high pressure on the kneecap.

Physiotherapeutic exercises that strengthen the thigh muscles are useful. Fitness equipment or the Theraband, a wide gymnastic band made of rubber, are suitable for this. It is also important to make sure that the knee flexor muscles are stretched well. A five to ten minute warm-up workout with careful stretching exercises is quite important.

Swimming and strengthening and stretching exercises before and after jogging are recommended as therapy for runners knee. Special shoe inserts can also help. Joint bandages for the knees are a support in case of overload.

Enzymes relieve knee inflammation

Overloaded muscles cause the smallest inflammations and traumas that cause the pain. Of course, osteoarthritis can also be a cause of knee joint pain – again, inflammatory processes cause the pain.

One possibility is therefore to relieve the inflammation, for example with enzymes: they help to break down protein bodies at the site of inflammation more quickly, thus accelerating the natural process of fighting inflammation. Enzymes also support the healing process after knee surgery.

Natural sources of enzymes include pineapple, papaya, mango and kiwi fruit. However, several kilos would have to be consumed for this. In addition, the enzymes in the fruits are not resistant to the stomach and hardly enter the bloodstream. Gastro-resistant enzyme tablets are more effective; the sustained-release form ensures that the enzymes are released with a time delay.

6 Tips for the Knee:

  • Avoid climbing stairs, walking downhill, squatting exercises.
  • Cyclists should pay attention to the correct frame height and seat height and saddle angle
  • Strengthen thigh and back muscles, for example, in the gym.
  • Warm-up training and stretching exercises
  • Swimming
  • Enzymes support the healing process of inflammation due to stress, arthritis, surgery on the knee.
