Laser of the moustache

The development of a moustache is often experienced by affected women as very unpleasant, disturbing or even disfiguring. In most cases, the lady’s beard only occurs in the area above the upper lip, but it can also develop on the chin or cheeks. To remove the annoying hairs on the face, many women carry out a shave, which in the long run, however, is very time-consuming and does not always provide a satisfactory result.

A new effective method is to let the ladies beard laser. After a few sessions, visible success can already be seen and the women’s suffering is also reduced. The IPL technology is a cheaper variant of laser treatment and also enables – light-based – permanent hair removal.

Symptoms

A woman’s beard can be differently pronounced and grow in different places on the face. Typical is the area above and to the side of the upper lip. The chin, cheeks and sideburns can also be affected.

The colour and hair structure of the moustache depends on the skin and hair type. The density of the beard hairs also varies greatly. In some cases, the development of the moustache is accompanied by an increase in male sex hormones, which leads to other symptoms, such as a deeper voice, absence of periods, balding of the scalp and further hair growth in the chest area.

However, a woman’s moustache can also simply be more common depending on the ethnicity. Apart from the hair growth in the face, there are no other symptoms, such as pain or similar. It should be noted, however, that affected women are sometimes under a high degree of suffering, as they feel disfigured by the moustache. Having a woman’s beard lasered usually relieves the pressure of suffering.

Cause

The development of a moustache can have various causes. In some women the hair is caused by predisposition. Also depending on the ethnicity, the hair on the face is more frequent.

Another cause for a woman’s beard can be the so-called “hirsutism“, which describes the effect of male hormones on the woman. Why the hormones are elevated in some women is often not known. In some cases the reason may be a hormone-producing tumour of the adrenal gland or the ovary. Also in the course of other diseases, such as Cushing’s syndrome or hypogonadism syndrome, increased production of androgens can occur. If the moustache develops in older women, the reason may be the reduced availability of oestrogens, which can shift the balance between female and male hormones towards testosterone.

Therapy

In addition to temporary removal by shaving, depilatory cream or waxing of the affected area, there is now a promising method of female beard removal: laser depilation. Here, the hair root is heated by the laser light used to such an extent that in the ideal case, irreversible obliteration occurs. Further hair production is thus prevented.

The laser that is used here is usually high-energy and in the infrared range, so that it can act up to half a centimetre into the skin. Under certain circumstances, the treated woman may feel a short prick when lasered, otherwise the laser is considered relatively painless. In order to achieve a good result with women’s beard lasering, it is advantageous if the hair colour is as dark as possible, as the hair then has a high melanin content and can be caught by the laser.

In addition, several laser sessions are necessary, and ideally there should be a certain period of time between laser applications, so that all hair roots can be sclerosed due to the different hair cycles. We recommend at least six to eight sessions with an interval of four to six weeks each. It is also recommended to shave the affected area about 24 hours before the laser treatment.

As a rule, the number of laser applications is sufficient to noticeably reduce the lady’s beard. In individual cases, however, it is possible that new or regenerated hair roots produce hair again, so that the laser must be repeated afterwards. Normally, women’s beard lasering is well tolerated, but only in exceptional cases does it lead to hypersensitivity or allergic reactions, which will subside.
