Which sport does me good – which not?

Which sport is good for you depends again on the surgical technique:

  • With a simple extension of the spinal canal, all sports can be performed again. At the beginning of the wound healing phase, an appropriate strength-building program should be carried out, which involves little rotation. Later, water gymnastics can be done, walking and cycling is also gentle.

    Basically, muscle building on machines should be done permanently. Yoga, Pilates and swimming are also highly recommended. Jerky sports, such as team sports, badminton or tennis are not recommended, but can be performed at low intensity with the consultation of the doctor and good muscular stabilization.

    Jogging can also be started carefully after a certain break.

  • With a vertebral body replacement, all sports with a strong rotational movement, such as tennis, badminton or even team sports, may no longer be performed. Likewise, jogging is not advisable due to the strong compression load. Swimming, cycling and walking can be practiced. During yoga and pilates, all exercises can be performed where no rotation is applied to the lumbar spine.

Exercises with small devices

Exercises with small devices can be performed very easily anywhere. The selection of small devices is varied and offers variety in the build-up training. The same exercises can be varied with different equipment.

It should be noted that the exercises with supporting devices should only be performed in the later phase when the stabilizing muscles have been well trained by the basic tension exercises and the mobility of the lumbar spine has been released. The following exercises can only be performed if the spine has not been stiffened by the operation.
