Medical history (history of the patient) is an important component in the diagnosis of Meniere’s disease.
Family history
- Is there a frequent history of ear disease in your family?
Social history
- What is your profession?
- Is there any evidence of psychosocial stress or strain due to your family situation?
Current medical history/systemic history (somatic and psychological complaints).
- When did the vertigo (spinning/swinging vertigo) occur?
- How long did it last?
- Did nausea occur along with the dizziness?
- Did additional symptoms such as ringing in the ears or ear pressure and/or hearing loss occur?
- Are both ears affected?
- Have you noticed any involuntary rhythmic eye movement (eye tremor)?
- Have such seizures occurred more than once?
- Were there any triggers for your symptoms?
- Have there been any accompanying symptoms:
- Nausea
- Vomiting
- Urinary and fecal urgency
- Sweating
- Palpitations
- Anxiety
Vegetative anamnesis including nutritional anamnesis.
- Do you smoke? If yes, how many cigarettes, cigars or pipes per day?
- Do you drink alcohol? If yes, what drink(s) and how many glasses per day?
Self history incl. medication history.
