Parent-child Cures: Recreation for Body and Soul

If parents run out of steam or children can no longer get well properly, then a cure is a good option. Parent-child cures are holistically oriented treatment measures that take into account the psychological well-being in addition to the actual clinical pictures. Cures are often used for treatment when the therapies at home have been exhausted and no improvement has occurred. This is often the case with chronic diseases such as asthma and neurodermatitis, but also applies to cardiovascular and metabolic diseases.

The decisive factor is that the attending physician certifies the necessity of the cure after a thorough examination and issues the corresponding certificates. This is also possible after serious illnesses such as a breast cancer operation of the mother, after deaths in the family circle or personal problem situations.

The formalities

Once the applications have been filled out and the certificates have been written, one can either hand in the application directly to the administrator of the respective health insurance company or contact one of the welfare organizations such as Caritas or Müttergenesungswerk, which will forward the application and take care of the processing. In the event of a rejection, support can be found here for an appeal and, under certain circumstances, a clarifying discussion can be prepared with the Medical Service of the Health Insurance Funds (MDK) in order to better explain the necessity of the cure.

Children and father or mother can go together to the cure, if:

  • Father / mother is in need of a cure and separation is not reasonable or the children can not be accommodated elsewhere.
  • Father / mother and child are in need of a cure and all can be treated in a clinic.
  • The child / children are in need of a cure and a cure without an accompanying person can not be carried out.

The right to a cure exists every 4 years, with the health insurance companies cover the costs except for a deductible of 9 euros for adults. In addition, there is a contribution to travel costs. Under certain conditions, all co-payments can also be partially or fully taken over. No vacation days may be deducted by the employer for a cure, however, depending on the company agreement, the continued payment of wages may be reduced. Information on this can be obtained from the employer and the works council.

If you are privately insured, you can claim the costs of the cure as a special expense in your income tax return. However, a certificate from the public health officer confirming the medical necessity of the cure must be obtained before the start of the cure. It should be borne in mind that this step may be very time-consuming and must be taken care of in good time.

Three weeks recovery learn

Parent-child cures are usually 3-week inpatient preventive or rehabilitation measures, which are intended as help for self-help and not as a vacation on sick leave. Rather, suggestions are to be given and techniques learned, with which an improvement can be ensured in the long term after completion of the cure.

Meanwhile there are numerous cure hospitals, which adjusted themselves completely to the support of families. During the 21-day stay, the first step is an initial interview, which, together with the examination, is translated into a therapy plan. The therapy plan includes – depending on the type of illness – various treatments, applications and talks. However, despite the emphasis on the medical aspects of the cure, modern spa clinics also offer a wide range of leisure activities. If necessary, the cure can be extended by one week upon request.

Which clinic is the right one?

Which clinics come into question depends on the illness. The health insurance companies provide information about this, as do the welfare associations. Brochures and information material about the clinic and spa are often available there as well.
