Prophylaxis | Diabetes insipidus

Prophylaxis

Prevention is unfortunately not possible, since the causes cannot be influenced. If the typical symptoms (see above) occur, a doctor should be consulted as soon as possible. If there is a tumour in the brain, for example, the earlier it is detected, the better the operation can be performed. A progressing kidney inflammation can also be stopped.

Forecast

The prognosis of central diabetes insipidus depends on the prognosis of the underlying disease. If a tumour is the underlying cause, the prognosis is based on the extent of the tumour, whether it is operable or not, whether it is benign or malignant, etc. In general, the prognosis is favourable.

However, a cure can only be achieved if the causes can be eliminated. A pituitary tumour can possibly be completely removed. With the help of the right medication, those affected can lead a completely normal life.
