Symptoms of farsightedness

Symptoms of farsightedness

Near-sightedness increases noticeably, especially in adulthood. Especially in young years, a slight farsightedness can still be compensated by accommodation (adjustment of the refractive power of the human eye), which is done automatically by a muscle in the eye (ciliary muscle). Do you suffer from blurred vision?

At a young age, slight farsightedness can still be corrected by accommodation (adjustment of the refractive power of the human eye), which is done automatically by a muscle in the eye (ciliary muscle). Do you suffer from blurred vision? Accomodation also causes an inward movement of the eyeballs, so that farsighted people whose vision is not corrected sometimes start to squint.

Farsighted people strain their eyes almost three times more than those with normal vision. They squint, blink, or close one eye completely in order to achieve the best possible vision with the other eye. This permanent and overstraining of the eyes causes headaches and burning sensation over a longer period of time, which then sometimes leads to inflammation due to strong rubbing of the eyes.

Long-sighted patients who do nothing to correct their defective vision often appear tired and often have a so-called “bedroom gaze”. An untreated farsightedness endangers health in the long run and restricts enormously, especially in everyday life. Therefore, a visual aid or even a surgical intervention may often be necessary to ensure the physical and psychological well-being of the person concerned.

Whether clear symptoms occur depends not only on the severity of the farsightedness (hyperopia), but also on the age of the affected person: In most cases, farsightedness has a stronger effect in old age than can be observed in children and young people. In addition to reduced vision, farsightedness can be associated with additional complaints. The reason for this is constant accommodation both at a distance and close by.
