Tavegil® is also used to treat itching of various causes such as chickenpox, contact allergies or eczema.

General Information/Dosage Form/Dosage

The drug Tavegil® is available in a variety of applications. Depending on the area of application, Tavegil® is available as a tablet, syrup, gel or as an injection solution for injection. The gel can be applied to the affected areas several times a day.

The tablet normally contains 1 milligram with the active ingredient clemastine. Adults and children/young people over 12 years of age can take one tablet each in the morning and evening. In particularly severe cases of hives or allergy the dose can be increased to a total of 6 tablets, which corresponds to a total dose of 6 milligrams of clemastine.

However, the dose should not be increased directly to 6 tablets. After each additional tablet you should always check whether this amount is sufficient to relieve the symptoms. Children from 6 to 12 years of age can also take Tavegil®, but in a lower dosage.

From 6 years of age, it is recommended to take half a tablet twice a day (increase to a maximum of 2 tablets per day). Tavegil® syrup contains 0.05 milligrams of the active ingredient clemastine per milliliter. 10 milliliters of syrup is equivalent to about two teaspoons.

When taking the syrup, there are also age-specific differences in dosage. Children aged 2-4 years may take 5 milliliters of syrup twice daily. At the age of 5-6 years, children may take 10 milliliters twice a day.

At the age of 7-12 years 10 milliliters twice daily may be taken, which may be increased to 15 milliliters twice daily in severe cases. From the age of 12 the recommended dose increases to 20 milliliters in the morning and 20 milliliters in the evening. Tavegil® syrup should be taken in the morning and evening before meals. The solution for injection of Tavegil® is not normally used at home. It is only used in hospital or in a doctor’s surgery to prevent histamine-related allergic reactions during radiological examinations with contrast media, for example, or in the context of severe allergic reactions requiring immediate intervention.
