Therapy
In order to treat the inflammation of the spermatic duct and the other organs that are usually also affected, it is important to know the respective cause. Once the exact pathogen has been identified, a suitable antibiotic can be applied. Additionally, with the help of freely available drugs such as ibuprofen, the pain and at the same time the inflammation process can be reduced.
Whether local measures, such as light cooling or elevation of the testicles, help is up to each individual. The standard antibiotics, especially penicillins, cephalosporins or cotrimoxazole, usually help with antibiotic therapy. However, the success of the therapy can be delayed somewhat.
This is often the case, for example, if the prostate is also affected. For infections with chlamydia and mycoplasma, macrolides or tetracycline are also used. Metronidazole is the drug of choice for trichomonads.
In immunocompromised persons, a fungal infection should also be excluded as a cause, which then has to be treated with antimycotics such as amphotericin. The administration of antibiotics in the case of acute inflammation of the spermatic duct is almost always essential. Antibiotics work specifically against bacterial pathogens that cause the inflammation.
With the help of urine samples or swabs taken from the inflamed area, a sample of the bacteria causing the inflammation can be obtained. With the help of a so-called “Antibiogram” the exact bacterium and the optimal antibiotic are determined. In most cases the standard antibiotics from the series of cephalosporins and penicillins are used.
Depending on how pronounced the inflammation is and whether the prostate or other glands are also affected, the duration of treatment varies. The therapy should be effective in a few days to a few weeks. In exceptional cases, there may also be a fungal infection, which is not treated with antibiotics but with so-called “antimycotics“.
Such an infection is possible, especially in the case of certain pre-existing conditions or the use of immunosuppressive drugs. In the case of a pronounced inflammation of the spermatic ducts, homeopathic remedies can be taken for pain relief and support. The remedy “Pulsatilla pratensis” is often used for men with problems of the genital tract. A homeopathic accompanying treatment with existing antibiotic therapy can be beneficial for healing. In the case of bacterial inflammation, however, antibiotic or anti-inflammatory therapy should not be avoided in order to avoid complications.
