These are the symptoms I recognize protein in my urine
There are not always any symptoms by which one could recognize that one has protein in the urine. This is why the gynecologist also routinely examines the urine of pregnant women. On the one hand, they want to exclude bacterial infections, of course, and on the other hand they also look for increased protein content. One indication for the pregnant woman may be that her urine foams more in the morning, which often indicates that she is excreting protein.
However, this is not a clearly proving criterion. If the protein excretion in the urine leads to a more significant loss of protein, symptoms may already appear. For example, water retention (edema) may develop in the legs.
In this case you should always consult a doctor. Additional information here: Cause of edemaThe vast majority of women store water in their arms and/or legs during pregnancy. This develops due to the hormonal constellation.
Also the fact that the blood volume increases and thus the pressure on the blood vessel walls, which consequently allow fluid to pass into the tissue. Although this is very uncomfortable and annoying for most women, it is not a problem. However, such water retention is not dangerous.
In contrast, excessive protein excretion with the urine can lead to a protein deficiency. This then leads to protein deficiency edema, which is much more dangerous. The edema can also be an indication of pregnancy poisoning, especially if the blood pressure is also elevated. However, the layman cannot distinguish this. Further tests are always necessary.
Can protein in urine be a sign of pregnancy?
Protein in urine is not a typical sign of pregnancy. However, it occurs more frequently in pregnant women and can therefore already be an indication of an existing pregnancy. However, it can also occur in non-pregnant women after increased physical activity or emotional stress. If other more typical signs of pregnancy are added, the fact that protein is excreted in the urine supports the fact that a pregnancy exists. Typical signs of pregnancy are the absence of menstruation, morning sickness, ravenous appetite, pulling in the breasts and others.
