Training | Musculus sartorius

Training

In strength training, M. Sartorius is not necessarily a muscle that is specifically trained. When the leg is bent in the hip, it becomes more active and can therefore develop more strongly during such exercises.

Elongation

The best way to stretch the tailor muscle is to take a big step forward and lower your hips towards the floor. The knee of the back leg almost touches the ground and the hip is stretched. The upper body remains upright during this exercise and points forward.

Paralysis

In the case of a lesion (e.g. incarceration) of the femoral nerve, it may no longer be able to supply its muscles. This results in paralysis or muscle weakness. This often results in an incarceration in the inguinal ligament. However, if only the Sartorius muscle is affected, the quadriceps femoris muscle can compensate for the loss very well, so that the consequences are very minor. However, if the femoral nerve fails completely and the quadriceps femoris muscle can no longer be treated, the clinical picture is more serious: The knee can no longer be extended and walking and standing are restricted.

Muscle Strain

This type of muscle disease often occurs as a result of sporting activity and mainly affects individual muscle groups. It is caused by long, heavy strain or by changing from one movement to another too quickly. The reason can also be an insufficient warm-up phase.

This can also result in a more severe form of injury: a torn muscle fibre or a complete muscle rupture. If a muscle is pulled, the original muscle remains intact but is overstretched. This can lead to swelling and pain. If something like this happens, it is important to spare the affected muscle and not to strain it again too quickly. In this case, the therapy can be based on the “PECH” rule:

  • Pause: first pause and spare or completely relieve the affected muscle.
  • Ice: Often the cold helps against the pain.
  • Compression: The swelling can be reduced with the help of an elastic compression bandage.
  • High position: By high position you also prevent swelling and reduce the pain.
