Vaccination Calendar for Travel Vaccinations

Yellow fever Live vaccine 1x In 2014, the World Health Organization (WHO), after evaluating the available evidence, determined that lifetime protection should be assumed after a single yellow fever vaccination.
Hepatitis A Inactivated vaccine 2x within one year (0 – 6/12 months) Earliest after 10 years
Hepatitis A+B Inactivated vaccine 3x within one year (0 – 1 – 6/12 months)Note: At least 2 injections must be given before departure. Hep. A at the earliest after 10 yrs. Hep. B if titer is low* or after 10 yrs after titer control.
Hepatitis B Inactivated vaccine 3x in 2 months (0 – 1- 6 months) At low titer* or after 10 years after titer control.
Japanese encephalitis Inactivated vaccine 3x in three weeks or in 3x in 0 – 1- 4 weeks. After 12-18 months and after 4 years
Meningococcal Inactivated vaccine 1x After about 3 years
Poliomyelitis Inactivated vaccine 4x in the first 2 years of life In 5th-17th year of life; not before 5 years after last vaccination; in adults, possibly booster after 10 years
Rabies (rabies) Dead vaccine 3x within one month (0 – 7- 21/28 days) Every 2-5 years or if titer < 0.5 E/ml serum
Tetanus Inactivated vaccine 4x in the first 2 years of life In the 5th-17th year of life; then every 10 years
Typhoid fever Live vaccine 4x (capsules): intake of 3 caps. on days 1, 3 and 5. After 5 years

* The anti-Hbs titer should be > 100 IU/l.

Basically, for intervals between different vaccinations:

  • Live vaccines can be administered simultaneously; if not administered simultaneously, then an interval of four weeks should be observed for live viral vaccines
  • No intervals need to be observed for inactivated vaccines
