Voltaren Dispers

Definition

Voltaren Dispers® is a prescription drug from the manufacturer Novartis that has analgesic and anti-inflammatory effects. These are soluble tablets that are dissolved in water, stirred and then drunk. It is best taken with a meal.

The effect

The active ingredient of Voltaren Dispers® is called diclofenac. Diclofenac belongs to the NSAIDs (non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs). These inhibit the formation of prostaglandins, so-called pain and inflammation mediators, which are important messengers in pain and inflammation processes.

Diclofenac or Voltaren Dispers® thus has an anti-inflammatory (antiphlogistic), antipyretic (antipyretic) and analgesic (analgesic) effect. The addition “Dispers” means “dispersed, distributed” and indicates that it is a tablet that dissolves in water. In this respect, Voltaren Dispers® is particularly suitable for older people who find it difficult to swallow tablets. The active ingredient diclofenac is mainly broken down in the liver and excreted in the urine.

The fields of application

Voltaren Dispers® is used for moderate pain and inflammation. These include, for example, pain or inflammation after injuries or operations. However, after surgery, especially after major blood loss, normal kidney function must be maintained before Voltaren Dispers® can be administered.

Voltaren Dispers® is also used for various painful joint conditions. One of these is activated arthrosis, which is a degenerative wear and tear of the joints that has become secondarily inflamed. In addition, acute or chronic arthritis (inflammatory joint diseases) can be treated with Voltaren Dispers®.

But also an acute attack of gout can be treated with Voltaren Dispers®. Gout is a metabolic disease that occurs in relapses and manifests itself through painful attacks on the joints. This is caused by the deposition of small gout crystals (ureates) in the joints.

Furthermore, Voltaren Dispers® can be used in the treatment of painful spinal syndromes or ankylosing spondylitis. Voltaren Dispers® can also be prescribed for severe menstrual problems, as well as for various inflammatory gynecological conditions. In the manufacturer’s supplement, Voltaren Dispers® is not explicitly recommended for use in headaches.

The active ingredient diclofenac is particularly effective for both inflammatory pain and joint pain. As a pain medication, Voltaren Dispers® can also provide relief for headaches, but is not specifically intended for this purpose. In addition, Voltaren Dispers® is only available on prescription and should only be taken for the reason for which the doctor prescribed it (see above for indications).

For occasional, common tension headaches, ibuprofen and aspirin (ASA) usually help better than Voltaren Dispers® and are freely available from pharmacies. Anyone who suffers from more frequent and severe headaches should have the cause clarified by a doctor. The doctor will prescribe a suitable medication if necessary.

Taking Voltaren Dispers® for toothache is similar to taking it for headaches. Toothache is not listed by the manufacturer as an area of use for Voltaren Dispers®, which of course does not mean that Voltaren Dispers® as an analgesic does not help against toothache. Again, Voltaren Dispers® as a prescription drug should only be used for the purpose that the doctor indicated when writing the prescription. It goes without saying that a dentist should be consulted if the toothache lasts longer. The dentist can also recommend a suitable painkiller for a few days.
