What is Anti-Aging Serum?

An Anti Aging Serum is a highly concentrated skin care product which is used before applying face creams. The consistency is light and fluid compared to that of face creams. This consistency allows the serums to penetrate the skin very quickly and reach deeper skin layers.

As the molecules contained in the serums are additionally smaller, they can penetrate the skin barrier better. Furthermore, sera do not contain any refatting substances which would prevent the sera from penetrating the skin. This is also the decisive difference between a serum and a cream. That is why it is also important to use the serum after skin care and BEFORE applying the face cream as otherwise the greasy consistency of the cream would make it more difficult to absorb the serum into the skin. The ingredients of Anti Aging Serums are mostly: Retinol, AHA and BHA acids, vitamin A, C and E.

What anti aging creams are available?

Nowadays there is an unmanageable number of products that promise an anti-aging effect. On the one hand there are lotions and oils for the body and on the other hand creams for the face and cleavage. Anti Aging body creams promote skin tightening and combat pigmentation spots that can develop with age.

Anti Aging face creams are available in two varieties: A distinction is made between night creams and day creams. Day creams are lighter than night creams and are absorbed into the skin faster. The night care on the other hand is richer in nourishing substances.

The anti aging face cream is available as day cream as well as night cream. The day cream has a light consistency and is therefore absorbed into the skin faster. It should be applied in the morning after cleansing the skin and before applying cosmetic products to the face, neck and décolleté and left to absorb.

Afterwards you can apply make-up as usual. Night creams are also applied in the evening after skin cleansing. If you would like to use an additional Anti Aging Serum, the cream is only applied afterwards like the day care (see above).

The night cream is richer in nourishing substances and is not absorbed as quickly as a day cream. Face creams contain substances that the skin is no longer able to produce on its own due to aging. These are: retinol, vitamin C, collagen, hyaluronic acid and coenzyme Q10.

Retinol ensures a good metabolism of the skin. As an antioxidant, vitamin C reduces oxidative stress, collagen (a natural structural protein of the connective tissue) ensures the firmness of the connective tissue. Hyaluronic acid is also found in the connective tissue and binds water due to its property.

Thus it provides for a padding and smoothing of the skin. Coenzyme Q10 acts against free radicals, which can lead to the destruction of cells. Anti aging eye creams moisturize the skin around the eyes and are said to be able to smooth even the smallest wrinkles.

They do not contain any special active ingredients for the eye area, but also those that are also found in anti-aging face creams (see above). However, oils and perfumes are deliberately avoided in these eye creams to prevent irritation of the sensitive eyes. There are also anti-ageing creams specially designed for the hands which moisturize environmentally exposed skin of the hands.

They also contain the usual anti-aging substances such as retinol, vitamin C, hyaluronic acid etc. which can delay the aging of the skin and reduce wrinkles that have already formed. These hand creams are usually richer than the anti-aging face creams, as the skin of the hands is also thicker and more resistant than the skin of the face.

Most anti aging creams contain a sun protection factor. This is because UV radiation damages the skin and promotes skin aging. It is therefore important to protect the skin from strong sunlight as early as possible.
