What to do when the navel piercing has grown out?
It is possible that a belly button piercing might grow out. A common reason for this is that the piercing was not stitched deep enough. Therefore belly button piercings like all other piercings should only be stitched in professional piercing studios.
You can see the process of growing out, when the skin over the navel piercing gets thinner and thinner until the jewellery shows through. Depending on the person, anatomy and depth of the piercing, it can already come out shortly after the piercing, only after years or at best never. If the navel piercing grows out, it should be removed.
This causes the hole of the original navel piercing to grow over time. How long it takes until the area is completely covered varies greatly from person to person and can take two to four months to years. If the skin area has healed well, you can have the navel piercing repierced if you want. It is important to have this done in a professional studio to prevent it from growing out again.
What do I have to pay attention to if I have to pierce a navel piercing?
You can have a belly button piercing repierced as soon as the former piercing hole has completely healed. It doesnŽt matter if a former piercing has grown out, if you had to remove your navel piercing because of an operation, pregnancy or other reasons. It is absolutely necessary to pay attention that the skin area is completely healed, because a new piercing in the area could otherwise cause severe wound healing difficulties. If you have a piercing pierced again, it costs the same as a newly pierced piercing. The pain can possibly be stronger when piercing through the tissue, possibly through scar tissue, than with the first belly button piercing.
Belly button piercing and umbilical hernia – is that possible?
If the belly button stands outwards due to an umbilical hernia, the question arises for many women whether it is even possible to get a belly button piercing stitched. Basically it is possible to get a belly button piercing despite an umbilical hernia. There are exceptional cases in which the piercer advises against a belly button piercing.
Therefore it makes sense to get a detailed consultation from an experienced piercer before, if a belly button piercing makes sense and how the result can look like. A belly button piercing can even have the advantage to conceal the belly button when the belly button has grown out.
