Allergic rhinitis

One can differentiate very well with allergies, whether it concerns hay fever (Pollinosis) or house dust allergy, as well as animal hair or molds, which cause sniffles and sore throat, because complaints due to hay fever occur only seasonally. The other allergies mentioned cause complaints all year round. Itching in the throat, itchy eyes, stuffy nose, watery runny nose, sneezing fits and often it hurts or scratches in the throat are the typical symptoms. In addition, partial dermatitis, sinusitis, allergic asthma, coughing and also diseases of the ears sometimes occur.

Furry feeling in the mouth and swollen lips, possibly also swollen larynx area, can often be attributed to the consumption of hazelnuts or stone fruit. Then it is an oral allergy syndrome. A pollen allergy is different in that one reacts to it when eating apples, for example, as well as to tree pollen and especially birch pollen.

Often allergies can also cross over and all the above mentioned symptoms occur in one person. The diagnosis of an allergy is usually made by a medical specialist (allergologist). A comprehensive anamnesis is very important at the beginning of the examination.

In addition, a physical examination is always performed, which is followed by an allergy test on the skin. The most important thing is to avoid the things that cause or aggravate an allergy. For example, one should avoid foods that cause the symptoms of an allergy.

If the symptoms are still very severe, immunotherapy (hyposensitization) is often used. It is carried out with injections under the skin, tablets that dissolve under the tongue or liquid solutions. This method must always be repeated and usually lasts for a period of three years.

There are also antihistamines and cortisone preparations that are used locally or for the inside of the body. These should be taken at an early stage if necessary.
