Does magnesium help? | What is the best way to release neck tensions?

Does magnesium help?

One of the purposes of magnesium is to provide energy (in the form of ATP) for the work of the muscles. Only in this way can the muscles be tensed and relaxed without problems. Otherwise, it can lead to cramps and tensions.

Normally, magnesium is sufficiently absorbed through diet. Whole grain products, nuts, whole milk and dark chocolate in particular contain a lot of magnesium. If those affected suffer from painful neck tension, this may be due to a magnesium deficiency in addition to a heavy load or poor posture. Therefore, taking magnesium can be helpful in alleviating the symptoms. This can be in the form of tablets or dragees or soluble effervescent tablets.

Heat

A heat therapy is suitable in any case to solve neck tensions. A local application of heat causes the vessels to dilate, thus increasing the blood circulation. This makes it possible for the body’s own healing processes to be stimulated and the tension in the neck muscles to be released.

The way in which the heat therapy is carried out can vary according to personal taste and available means. The so-called Finalgon® ointment is available as medication. This is rubbed into the skin above the tense neck muscles. In addition, affected persons can use an infrared lamp to achieve heat radiation on the neck.

However, it is not absolutely necessary to have such a lamp. Concerned ones can help themselves also completely simply with a cherry stone cushion or a hot-water bottle and put these into the neck. For on the way a warming scarf or a heat plaster is suitable completely classically.

In contrast to the Finalgon® ointment, the warming plasters work completely without active pharmaceutical ingredients and contain only water, salt, iron powder and activated carbon. With the help of an infrared lamp it is possible to effectively relieve neck tension. So-called infrared radiation causes heat to be generated at the illuminated area of the neck, i.e. optimally on the skin directly above the tense neck muscles.

An advantage of the infrared lamp is the purposeful applicability. The infrared beam of the lamp can be aligned according to individual needs and penetrates so also into the deep layers of the tense neck musculature. The heat promotes increased blood circulation, which leads to the stimulation of bodily healing processes and ultimately to a relaxation of the neck muscles.

In general, it is recommended to apply twice a day for about 20 minutes each. The duration can of course vary individually depending on the severity of the neck tension. Finalgon® is a blood circulation-promoting (= hyper-emitting) ointment that has been on the market since 1951.

The main area of application of Finalgon® ointment is in the treatment of muscle tensions, especially in the back and neck muscles. The vasodilating effect of the ointment increases the blood circulation in the corresponding region. Thereby, a warming effect develops simultaneously.

This mechanism of action is therefore often used to relieve neck tension, as it ensures effective relaxation of the muscles. Two different products are currently available: “Finalgon CPD Warming Cream®” and “Finalgon Warming Cream DUO®”. The first mentioned ointment contains capsaicinoids as active ingredient; the other product contains nonivamide and nicoboxil.

In general, both have an equal benefit, but the Finalgon Warming Cream DUO® has an even stronger warming effect, so that even muscle layers located in the deep layers of the body can be developed. Those affected can easily rub Finalgon® into the affected neck muscles. It is important that the hands are washed well afterwards so that the effect does not spread to the hands or other unintended areas with which one has come into contact.
