Duration and prognosis | Stitching in the left breast

Duration and prognosis

The duration and prognosis as well as the therapy depends on the cause of the breast prick. Tensions, for example, have a very good prognosis and a maximum duration of a few days. In the case of a heart attack, however, the prognosis depends very much on how quickly the affected person is treated in a hospital.

The faster the better! However, there is no general answer to the duration of the symptoms, because it depends not only on the medical treatment, but also on which area of the heart is affected to what extent. The prognosis of a heart attack patient also depends on this. The size of the infarction, the place and time until therapy is started are therefore crucial in determining a prognosis. The survival of the patient in the event of an acute myocardial infarction depends on whether cardiac arrhythmia or pump failure occurs. For the long-term prognosis after a heart attack it is among other things crucial whether a cardiac insufficiency develops, whether the cardiovascular disease continues to progress and whether a healthy way of life is observed.

Localization of the stabbing pain

The reasons for a painful nipple can have different causes, just like the prick in the breast. A harmless example of a cause would be an inflammation caused by clothing. This inflammation can be caused by rubbing or scratching clothes or special textiles.

This is usually a pain on both sides. Likewise, lumps in the breast can be a possible trigger. Sometimes there is also an external change in the nipple in connection with pain, in which case a doctor should always be consulted.

In most cases, however, especially in women, a hormonal change is the trigger. This can affect puberty, pregnancy or even the menopause. During pregnancy or breastfeeding, the complaints or pain in the nipple are more frequent.

In combination with overheating, reddening or even discharge, mastitis has to be considered in women, which has to be treated by a doctor. When patients complain of a prick at the costal arch, usually the rib cage, sternum and ribs are affected by a strong pain. A stabbing pain in the left costal arch is usually no cause for concern.

A stabbing costal arch often conceals an injury to the ribs, muscles or nerves. The ribs may be bruised or broken. It is also possible that incorrect posture, overstraining or sore muscles are causing the pain.

A pinched nerve can also be a possible cause. Only in a few cases is the pain in the left costal arch due to a heart attack or abdominal disease. If the stomach, spleen or pancreas is responsible for the pain, it is usually located below the left costal arch.
