Fire mark on the baby
Since firemarks are congenital malformations of smallest vessels, they are already visible immediately after birth. It is a benign malformation which is neither harmful nor disturbing for the baby. Fire stains do not cause pain or discomfort.
About 80% of port-wine stains are located on the face. They can be associated with syndromes such as Sturge Weber syndrome and therefore usually require further diagnostic tests on the baby. However, such syndromes are almost rarities.
Very large port-wine stains in the area of the eyes require an ophthalmological checkup, since even deeper-lying vessels in this area can be affected by malformations. In most cases, port-wine stains are harmless. However, they tend to become darker in the course of life, so they are usually removed in infancy and toddlers.
Although they do not directly endanger the physical health of the child, they can have considerable consequences for the psyche. Especially in kindergarten age, large port-wine stains on the face can lead to stigmatization of children and exclusion by others. Therefore, the removal of very large port-wine stains on the face is advisable.
Beta blocker against a port-wine stain
Beta blockers are not part of the treatment of port-wine stain! However, they are used for the treatment of so-called hemangiomas. These are often confused in the population with port-wine stains.
Hemangiomas are vascular tumors that can resemble port-wine stains in their initial phase. However, they grow in thickness and size within a few days or weeks, so that they are raised above the skin level and can be felt easily. Thus they can be easily distinguished from port-wine stains.
Spiritual meaning
There are different, partly different, views on the spiritual meaning of fire paintings. Mostly they are seen as a kind of remnant from a former life. However, the opinions about the significance of this former life differ very much.
Partly they are promised a negative meaning. Thus one often finds an association to bad deeds in the past life or even witchcraft. Another superstition, however, sees the birthmark simply as a remnant of a significant experience. The firemark is often also called a symbolic remnant of contact with other people in a past life. To what extent this contact took place, however, is not further described.
