Heel shoes

Shoes with high heels are certainly not the only trigger for the development of a hallux rigidus, but they can contribute to the deterioration of the joint position and intensification of the inflammatory reaction. In the case of a painful hallux rigidus or after hallux rigidus surgery, shoes with heels should no longer be worn because of the hyperextension of the metatarsophalangeal joint of the big toe, the punctual load on the forefoot and the narrow shoe shape. Depending on the extent of movement that can still be achieved in the joint, shoes with high heels are no longer anatomically possible. However, there are even orthopedic shoes for women with low heels. If the extensibility of the big toe is still sufficient to wear these shoes, they are a good alternative to conventional heel shoes.

Hallux rigidus is a painful arthrosis of the metatarsophalangeal joint of the big toe. The X-ray image shows a narrowed joint space and possibly bony attachments and unevenness of the joint surface. With a Hallus rigidus, certain sports, such as barefoot sports or ballet, can no longer be performed. Walking or jogging can be painful if the stretching ability in the joint is too limited.
