Homeopathy | Fear of the dentist

Homeopathy

There are many different homeopathic medicines that help to overcome the fear of the dentist. It is important that a homeopath prescribes the individually correct medication. A self-treatment is not recommended.

The type of fear as well as one’s own character play an important role in homeopathic treatment. Depending on the severity of the anxiety and the way one deals with it, there are different remedies. In most cases the form of administration is in the form of globules, i.e. small sugar-based globules.

Local or general anesthesia?

There are different types of anaesthesia (numbing) to make a treatment at the dentist painless. These include surface anaesthesia, infiltration anaesthesia and conduction anaesthesia. The latter is used to anaesthetize the entire supply area of a nerve.

Another possibility is general anesthesia. This is used for major surgical procedures, as well as for anxiety patients. The advantage of general anesthesia over local anesthesia is that the patient does not notice anything of the treatment.

In addition, larger operations such as pulling teeth or placing implants can be performed in one session, as the anesthesia can easily last several hours. Normally, two sessions would be necessary if local anesthesia is used. However, the disadvantage of general anesthesia is the increased cost, since an anesthesiologist (anaesthetist) must be present to monitor vital functions such as blood pressure, heartbeat and breathing. Furthermore, the patients must be picked up and cared for by an accompanying person.

Who bears the costs for a general anesthesia

Who bears the costs of general anesthesia depends on the necessity of it. If general anesthesia is necessary for treatment, the health insurance usually covers the costs incurred. If, however, general anesthesia is required on request, general anesthesia is billed as a private service. In this case the patient bears the costs. If anxiety patients suffer from a known anxiety phobia and this has already been confirmed by a psychiatric report, the statutory health insurance companies usually pay the costs of the general anesthesia.
