Indications | Spiroergometry

Indications

In addition to working with (high-performance) athletes, which is an indication in itself, there are also useful indications for performing spiroergometry in everyday clinical practice. For example, for a more precise clarification of shortness of breath (dyspnoea), before heart and lung operations to determine the current capacity to cope with stress and, if necessary, to compare this with the results after the operation, in the context of medical reports to assess the performance of patients with occupational diseases and to evaluate the success of medication or training therapy for patients with heart or lung disease.

Costs

The costs for the spiroergometric examination are not easy to determine in a lump sum. Here, reference is made to an example from the book “Kursbuch Spiroergometrie: Technik und Befundung verständlich gemacht, R. Kroidl, S. Schwarz, B. Lehnigk, 2010”. The author lists the following costs for a practice where spiroergometric examination is performed: For a person with statutory health insurance, the costs for a single examination amount to 40.25 Euros, for a privately insured person to 162.69 Euros, and for a patient who is insured through the professional association to 123.70 Euros.
