Methods

In order to achieve the best possible result for the respective patient in the course of surgical skin smoothing, various procedures are available. The choice of the appropriate method depends on the initial condition and extent of the sagging areas as well as the desired final result. The aim of every plastic surgical skin smoothing is the removal of the excess skin flaps and the subcutaneous fatty tissue underneath.

In addition, a tightening of the remaining residual skin is aimed at. Surgical skin smoothing offers the advantage that the treatment results achieved can generally be considered extremely successful. The removal of large areas of skin with subsequent smoothing of the remaining skin can be guaranteed.

The disadvantage of these methods is that surgical skin smoothing without scarring is not possible. In the meantime, however, there are incision and suturing procedures available to the treating physicians, which limit the extent of scarring as far as possible. Furthermore, in the course of skin smoothing, the areas of the incisions are chosen so that they are as hidden as possible and generally not very noticeable. Typical places where the incisions are made are the groin area, the bikini line or the inside of the thigh.

Skin smoothing in the face

Smoothing the skin of the face is generally known as “facelifting” or “wrinkle correction”. The reason why most patients decide to undergo a facelift is the formation of deep facial wrinkles, which are mainly caused by the consumption of tobacco, frequent sun exposure or severe weight loss. The exact procedure of a facelift depends on the degree of slackness of the facial skin.

In general, a distinction is made between a complete facelift and the treatment of individual areas (for example: forehead lift or cheek lift). To achieve a particularly effective skin smoothing, both the skin and muscle structures must be tightened and fixed to firm structures by attaching sutures. After the actual skin smoothing is completed, the excess skin is removed and the remaining skin edge is sutured in a place that is as inconspicuous as possible. Alternatively, the somewhat smaller and therefore less risky eyelid correction procedure can already bring about an optical rejuvenation by opening the eye and removing wrinkles and bags under the eye.
