Prognosis | Limb Pain

Prognosis

The individual prognosis for limb pain depends on the causative disease. In general, chronic pain in the limbs, i.e. pain that occurs constantly, is very rare. Most pain in the limbs occurs in the context of another acute disease and subsides in the course of this disease.

Pain in the limbs also does not occur in all cases over the entire course of the disease. Thus, the complaints can only occur at the beginning of a cold and with time almost completely disappear or at least recede into the background. The prognosis for limb pain in other diseases is very difficult to assess, since a number of different diseases can be responsible for the symptoms. For most diseases, the earlier the disease is diagnosed and treatment is initiated, the better the prognosis. For this reason, pain in limbs of unclear cause should be taken seriously and a doctor should be consulted for clarification.

Prophylaxis

Pain in the limbs can occur in the context of many diseases, which can be avoided in different ways. However, the most common reason for aching limbs is the illness caused by a cold virus. The only prophylaxis to avoid aching limbs when having a cold is to avoid the cold itself. In this way, the immune system should be strengthened and attention should be paid to personal hand hygiene. Even large crowds of people can promote the spread of these pathogens and should be avoided if possible, especially during the critical seasons.

Aching limbs with fever

Pain in the limbs, which occurs together with fever, indicates the presence of an infectious disease. Especially diseases like a cold, but also the infection with measles or the real flu virus can cause both fever and aching limbs. Early summer meningoencephalitis, better known as FSME, can also cause fever and massive limb pain. This is an infectious disease that can be transmitted to humans by ticks. It is best to have severe pain in the limbs with fever at the same time examined by a doctor, so that a suitable and sensible therapy can be initiated and the illness cured.
