Therapy recommendations

  • Skin care with soap-free syndetsNote: Skin care products with high lipid content should not be used.
  • Topical antifungals (antifungals used topically) are agents of choice: e.g., clotrimazole 2%, ketoconazole (e.g., as a shampoo)Alternatively, shampoos containing zinc pyrithione or selenium disulfide (selenium disulfide 2.5%: Keratolytic; horn-dissolving active ingredient; also antimicrobial).
  • Corticoidehaltige Externa (means for external use): for stronger inflammatory foci; short-term use.
  • Creams containing erythromycin (antibiotic) 1%, ketokonazole (antifungal), metronidazole (antibiotic; cream or gels) or selenium disulfide can be used to stabilize the skin condition.
  • Systemic treatment in pronounced cases or multiple recurrences: try tetracycline: 1 g/day p.o. in week 1, 0.5 g/day p.o. in week 2 and 0.25 g/day p.o. in week 3.
