Voltaren Pain Gel

Voltaren® Pain Gel, as the name suggests, is a pain gel that can be applied to the skin and then locally reduces pain. The pain gel is applied like a body lotion. It is quickly absorbed into the skin and then distributes its pain-relieving effect so that muscle pain (including muscle ache) can be relieved quickly and effectively.

Effect

There are several reasons why Voltaren® pain gel can be used. Because the gel is applied locally to the skin, it is particularly suitable for pain that is located only on a specific part of the body, such as calf pain. Voltaren® Pain Gel can be used primarily for so-called somatic pain.

This is an easily localized pain that originates from the muscles or the skin itself (for example, sore muscles). For organic (visceral) pain, however, Voltaren® Pain Gel is the wrong choice, as this pain is better treated with medication in pill form. Back pain is a particularly common cause for the use of Voltaren® Pain Gel.

Most back pain (up to 80%) is caused by muscle tension. Lumbago is also caused by an acute form of muscle tension or stiffness. In this case, it helps above all to relax the back muscles with the help of heat.

Voltaren® Pain Gel is often additionally applied to the back to relieve pain. The positive thing about Voltaren® Pain Gel is that it primarily reduces the pain in the muscles, but does not have to be absorbed through the intestines like Aspirin® or Paracetamol®. As a result, the effect of Voltaren® Pain Relief is much more targeted and has fewer side effects.

In addition, Voltaren® Pain Relief has a total effect time of approximately 12 hours. This means that the patient can pursue his or her activities throughout the day without being affected too much by the pain. Voltaren® Pain Gel is not only very popular and easy to use for back pain, but is also frequently used by athletes.

The local analgesic effect of Voltaren® Pain Gel makes it especially popular for muscle strain. Voltaren® Pain Gel can also help with sprains, for example on the ankle. However, it is important to ensure that the injury is “only” a strain or compression and that there is no tear in the tendon, for example, as this should not only be treated with pain gel but also surgically.

If Voltaren® Pain Gel is not sufficient to stop the pain, a doctor should be consulted to examine the affected area. Voltaren® Pain Gel may also be insufficient for back pain. This is the case, for example, when there is an acute spondylolisthesis or an acute herniated disc (prolapse).

In this case, a doctor should always be consulted. However, if the effect of Voltaren® Pain Gel is sufficient to combat the pain, the cause of the pain is very likely to be found in the muscles and can therefore be treated well with the pain gel. Other possible causes for using Voltaren® Pain Gel include tennis elbow (Epicondylitis radialis humeri).

This is a condition that causes irritation of the muscles of the forearm, which causes the patient to have pain in the area of the elbow where the muscles originate. In this case, Voltaren® Pain Gel can be applied locally to the affected area of the elbow, where it takes effect without giving other areas of the arm an analgesic effect that is not necessary. Voltaren® Pain Gel can also be used in cases of tendosynovitis or a mild form of joint degeneration (osteoarthritis).

However, it is important to note that Voltaren® Pain Gel is a purely symptomatic therapy. This means that while the pain is reduced, the actual cause of the pain remains. This can be illustrated using the example of tendosynovitis. If Voltaren® Pain Gel is applied to the skin above the inflamed tendon sheath, the pain is relieved, but the tendon is still inflamed. This means that the tendons must continue to be protected and should not be overused, even after the pain has disappeared with Voltaren® pain gel.
