Which courses make me fit?

Even during pregnancy you can train your body and fitness. The sports courses, which are specially and sensibly designed for pregnancy, are less intensive and do not serve the goal of losing weight. Rather, the positive effects of physical activity in terms of well-being and prevention of pregnancy-associated complaints are defined as the primary goal.

It can also prevent uncontrolled weight gain. The pregnancy sport courses partly work with modified and partial load, which means that special muscle groups, especially the straight abdominal muscles, are left out of the training in order not to cause complications. One way to keep fit during pregnancy is Pilates.

This sport strengthens the muscles through slow and controlled movements combined with relaxing breathing exercises.Often the back in particular is trained to prevent or alleviate back problems. In addition, muscle groups that will be strained during the birth process can be trained. Courses that offer pregnancy gymnastics are also suitable ways of staying physically fit or increasing fitness.

In addition to strengthening units, the course also includes stretching and breathing exercises. The pelvic floor and abdominal muscles are also trained. Gymnastic exercises can also be done in water as part of aqua fitness courses for pregnant women. Many pregnant women find these exercises particularly pleasant, as the buoyancy of the water makes the abdomen feel less heavy and protects the joints.

How long can I attend the courses?

Depending on the course attended, the sensible and safe duration of the course varies. It is advisable to consult the gynecologist or midwife in charge of the course. Courses that are primarily intended to help you relax can usually be attended throughout the entire period of pregnancy until delivery.

If the primary goal of the course is to stay fit during pregnancy, it can be attended until late pregnancy, usually up to the eighth month. Some pregnant women can even participate in water gymnastics until the ninth month due to the gentle exercises. However, it is also possible that due to the increase in abdominal girth and the frequently occurring fatigue of pregnant women, it is necessary to end the sports courses earlier.

A break or complete abstinence may also be advisable in the case of newly occurring complaints. Therefore, it should be emphasized that the course of the pregnancy, the physical condition and one’s own stress limits should be taken into account in the individually justifiable duration of the course and medical recommendations should be obtained.
