Entrance | Preparation of a colonoscopy

Entrance

An enema is the injection of fluid into the large intestine to clean the last section of the intestine. In contrast to the laxative, the intestine is cleaned from behind in its last section. The enema, or “enema syringe”, is used in case of failure of other laxatives, intestinal passage disorders, to prepare for colonoscopies or before operations. Sometimes a colonoscopy has to be performed spontaneously, whereby the enema is used to clean the intestine in a makeshift manner in a shorter time. Subsequent diarrhoea and liquid stool must also be expected here.

Duration

The patient must start the preparation and adjust his food intake about three days before the colonoscopy.
