When do the symptoms improve? | Floxal eye ointment

When do the symptoms improve?

Exactly when improvement occurs depends on the severity of the infection and the type of pathogen. In most cases, improvement occurs within 1-3 days. However, if it takes a little longer, this does not mean that the medication is not effective.

Improvement may also occur later. Floxal eye ointment can be used for up to fourteen days. If the symptoms do not improve, the doctor treating the patient should be informed.

Is the Floxal eye ointment available over the counter?

Floxal eye ointment can be stored unopened for 3 years. After the tube of ointment has been opened for the first time, the drug can be stored for another six weeks.

Price

The price of Floxal eye ointment depends on the type of insurance and any co-payment exemption. Legally insured persons pay a contribution of five euros to Floxal Eye Ointment. Privately insured persons pay about 15-20 Euros. Those exempt from co-payments receive the medication without any costs.

Alternatives

If there is an infection of the eye that needs to be treated with medication, there are several alternatives to Floxal eye ointment. On the one hand, the active ingredient of this ointment, Ofloxcain, is also available in the form of drops. In addition, there are other active ingredients with which bacterial infections of the eye can be combated effectively. The antibiotics gentamicin and chloramphenicol, for example, are effective against staphylococci. Tetracycline and erythromycin are particularly effective against chlamydia.

Can be used during pregnancy and breastfeeding?

Use during pregnancy and lactation should be discussed with the treating physician. Floxal eye ointment works mainly locally, i.e. limited to the eye. Nevertheless, an effect that affects the whole body (systemic) cannot be excluded beyond doubt.

So far, there is no evidence of a fruit-damaging (teratogenic) effect. Nevertheless, the data available here is not sufficient to completely rule this out. Therefore, the application should be avoided if possible or discussed with the treating physician.
