What helps against joint pain?

Gentle movements in aqua gymnastics can relieve joint pain. Painful joints should be moved steadily and gently, but without great force or strain. If the pain is due to overuse, the joint should be spared. Movements leading to overuse should be discontinued. As far as possible, painful joints can be elevated for relief. However, permanent resting positions to relieve the painful joint should also be avoided so as not to overload other joints and cause malpositions. On the other hand, foods such as fruits and vegetables, potatoes, fish, whole grains, soy and nuts are recommended. Joint pain may also be due to a food allergy. Therefore it is to be examined if necessary whether appropriate allergies are present. The cabbage contained in savoy cabbage contains sulfur and therefore, in the form of an overlay of large savoy cabbage leaves, has a pain-relieving effect on joint pain. A rolling pin is used to roll over the leaves until the juice oozes out. The savoy leaves are then placed over the painful joint and covered with cling film. The root of the African medicinal plant devil’s claw has proven particularly effective against pain. For osteoarthritis, treatment with leeches has proven effective. The leeches are placed around the painful joint. In about thirty to sixty minutes, they extract up to 15 milliliters of blood from the body and simultaneously release pain-relieving and anti-inflammatory substances. Often, leech treatment results in pain relief and sometimes even complete pain elimination. If joint pain suddenly occurs during physical activity, a break is recommended. If the joint pain returns after the break in activity, a visit to the doctor is recommended.

Alternative remedies

Relief from joint pain is promised by healing clay. Two tablespoons of healing clay are mixed well with a little water and applied to the joint as a paste about 0.5 centimeters thick. The healing clay, fixed with a cloth, is left to work until it is completely dry. Also compresses with comfrey ointment or comfrey roots are recommended. Alternatively, rubbing with caraway oil three times a day can be considered. Caraway stabilizes the immune system and therefore helps with arthritis. Joint pain can also be relieved by rubbing the affected joint areas with Maharashi Ayurveda massage oils.Willow bark extract is to be used for arthritis, which is based on inflammation. Willow bark, which has been used for thousands of years in the therapy of rheumatic diseases, contains numerous active substances, which include in particular salicin and various polyphenols. In addition to an analgesic effect, willow bark has also been shown to have a cartilage-protective effect. Tea prepared from the leaves of stinging nettle can be drunk or applied as a poultice to aching joints. The homeopathic arnica ointment contains the anti-inflammatory and circulation-promoting active ingredients of the arnica flower. The ointment is particularly well tolerated and may also be used several times a day over a longer period of application. A prepared rosemary alcohol tincture is used for rubbing acutely painful joint areas. Depending on the desired dosage, 5 to 20 grams of dried rosemary are mixed in 100 milliliters of alcohol and left to infuse in a warm environment for three weeks, after which it is strained.
