Price

5 ml Floxal eye drops (bottles for multiple use) cost about 16 euros in an online pharmacy. The product is available only on prescription. If a cash prescription is submitted, the co-payment costs amount to 5 euros per prescription.

3 grams of Floxal eye ointment also cost about 16 euros, with a cash prescription 5 euros. From Floxal EDO eye drops for single use, a pack of 10 ophtioles costs about 16 Euro, a pack of 30 ophtioles costs about 22 Euro. The co-payment on presentation of a cash prescription is 5 Euro each.

Alternatives to Floxal

There are slightly cheaper alternatives to Floxal eye drops that contain the same active ingredient. Ofloxa eye drops are just one example. They are available as EDO variants for single use in packs of 10 ophtiols or 30 ophtiols.

Ofloxa eye drops are also available as vials for multiple use. Both variants cost about 2 Euro less than Floxal. Another alternative is Ofloxacin eye drops from Ratiopharm.

The eye ointment is also available as an alternative under the name Ofloxacin Eye Ointment, but at the same price as Floxal eye ointment. Overall, the difference in price is therefore rather small. As soon as a cash register prescription is available, there is only a co-payment fee of 5 Euro for all products mentioned.

Can be used during pregnancy and lactation

During pregnancy the eye drops can be used if absolutely necessary. There is no evidence to date that local application as eye drops is harmful to the unborn child. The use during the breastfeeding period should be avoided as it cannot be excluded that a small amount of locally applied Ofloxacin is transferred into the breast milk.

Is the effectiveness of the pill affected?

No. Local use as Floxal eye drops or eye ointment does not affect the effect of the hormonal contraceptive pill.

Can be used for baby and children?

There is limited experience with the use of Floxal eye drops and eye ointment in children and young people. There is therefore no general recommendation for use in children and adolescents. The treating pediatrician should be consulted. To date, no damage has been reported in children undergoing Floxal therapy, so that cautious use should generally be possible after consultation with the treating pediatrician.
