Side effects | Musaril®

Side effects

In 1 – 10% of the patients treated, the typical tetrazepam side effects such as dizziness, drowsiness, coordination disorders, speech disorders and gastrointestinal complaints occurred after taking Musaril®. These symptoms often subsided during the course of treatment. About 0.1% of those treated experienced allergic skin reactions and muscle weakness, and a small proportion of patients experienced severe skin reactions, menstrual disorders and reduced sexual desire (libido). A reversal of the effect is also possible: paradoxically, in these cases the nervous system was activated with states of arousal, anxiety, sleep disorders, aggression and muscle cramps.

Roadworthiness and operation of machines

Tetrazepam causes significant limitations in responsiveness, so patients treated with tetrazepam are advised not to operate heavy machinery or to actively participate in road traffic. The effect is further intensified by the consumption of alcohol.

Danger of addiction

Tetrazepam is not suitable for long-term use, as it can become addictive after only a short time. Especially if the drug is suddenly discontinued, the treated patients may experience sleep disorders and panic attacks.

Interactions

Musaril® can interact with many other drugs, especially with centrally acting drugs (psychotropic drugs, painkillers, sleeping pills, allergy medicines) in the form of enhanced effects and side effects.

Pregnancy and lactation

Musaril® or tetrazepam could not be used even before the ban on August 1, 2013, if there was severe muscular weakness (myasthenia gravis), sleep apnea, severe liver damage or movement disorders (spinal or cerebellar ataxias) originating in the spinal cord or brain. In addition, tetrazepam should not be used if a drug, drug or alcohol addiction exists or has existed.
