Skin rash from sweating

Introduction

Great heat causes people to start sweating. And with the sweat often come many little red spots, commonly known as heat spots, heat rashes or sweat pimples. This is not a single phenomenon, but a medical condition known as miliaria. The vesicles are usually very light to milky in color and become noticeable by their unpleasant itching. They usually heal by themselves quite quickly without leaving any traces.

Causes

The heat spots are caused by blocked sweat pores on the skin. How and why exactly the pores are clogged has not yet been clearly clarified. The consequence is however in each case the emergence of a pimple including redness and itching.

Various theories are taken into consideration when investigating the cause. For example, one theory assumes that some sweat pores are not fully mature shortly after birth and are therefore susceptible to environmental influences. This could be one reason why babies and small children in particular tend to develop heat spots.

But also in adults, increased physical activity, a hot and humid climate and airtight clothing can stimulate sweat production to such an extent that the pores in the skin close up and pimples develop. Also, some medications can artificially stimulate sweat production and cause heat spots to form, especially beta-blockers and opiates are known for this side effect. Various creams, ointments and other skin care products can also close the pores due to their ingredients and impair sweat production, which promotes pimple formation. But other factors such as stress, lack of sleep, allergies and food intolerances and immune deficiencies can also result in the formation of sweat pimples.

Sweat pimples or sweat blisters as the main symptom

Sweat bubbles, also known as heat spots or miliaria, are the small, often red spots that can develop in high temperatures. They do not appear as a result of the sun’s rays themselves, but as a result of the heat effect on the skin (skin rash due to heat). The sweat pores become clogged and the sweat can no longer escape from the skin. A small blister forms in the skin.
