Summary | Pain during pregnancy

Summary

Pain during pregnancy can have many causes. Many of these causes are physiological and harmless. It is normal for pain to occur in the abdomen and stomach as the child grows and the uterus stretches.

In addition, the additional weight also causes back pain. Pregnant women should therefore ensure that their bodies are sufficiently protected and avoid lifting heavy loads, for example. The location of the pain varies from woman to woman and has different causes.

Pelvic pain can be the expression of a loosening of the symphysis, abdominal pain, for example, indicates a strongly stretched ligamentous apparatus of the uterus. However, caution is advised when dealing with accompanying symptoms such as vaginal bleeding, burning sensation when urinating, nausea and vomiting, and a doctor should be consulted immediately. Contraction-like pain in early pregnancy accompanied by bleeding may indicate an abortion.

Pain of this kind in late pregnancy and the discharge of amniotic fluid may also be caused by an impending miscarriage. Furthermore, premature births cause pain in the back, lower abdomen and pelvis and are accompanied by diarrhoea. In addition, pregnancy disorders can cause pain.

Depending on their location and size, uterine fibroids are the cause of a painful pregnancy, as they can have an unfavorable effect on the position of the child and the uterus. It can therefore be seen that there are numerous reasons for pain during pregnancy. Since the pain is very unspecific, only medical diagnostics can provide certainty about the cause.
