What are dysplastic labia?

Dysplasia is a non malignant cell change, which is partly a precursor of malignant cancer. Since they are not painful, they are often not noticed by patients. If the dysplasias remain untreated, they can develop into malignant tumors.

The cause is usually sexually transmitted virus infections. With dysplastic labia, cell changes can be found in the pubic region. These can occur in very different ways. Mostly they are diagnosed on the basis of differently colored spots. If there is a suspicion of dysplasia in the pubic area, this can be investigated by taking tissue samples or smears.

What is a labia correction?

A labiaplasty is a surgical procedure that serves to treat labia that are too large. There can be many reasons for such an operation. As a rule, labia corrections are performed due to discomfort with the external appearance.

However, everyday activities such as wearing tight clothes, riding a bicycle or having sexual intercourse can also cause pain and swelling of the external genitals. In a labiaplasty procedure, also known as lobe reduction, excess skin is removed and the labia are then reduced to their natural size adapted to the patient’s needs. However, the function of the labia should not be neglected.

Labia that are too small can lead to dehydration, inflammation or the unwanted intrusion of foreign bodies. Therefore, individual, detailed preliminary examinations and discussions with the treated doctor are necessary. There is no change in desire after a labia correction.

Circulatory disorders in the vulva area do not normally occur either. The scars are usually no longer visible after some time. Depending on the patient’s wishes, the treatment can be performed under general or local anesthesia.

Usually the treatment is performed on an outpatient basis. The costs are usually not covered by health insurance. In middle adulthood or in the course of weight gain, fat may be deposited in the mons veneris, resulting in enlarged mons veneris. This can and is often treated in combination with labiaplasty by surgical procedures.
