Belly

If a torn muscle fibre occurs in the abdomen, those affected can in most cases clearly distinguish the pain from other causes of abdominal pain. The pain is felt as pulling and stabbing and is usually made worse by stretching, pressure and movement. A torn muscle fibre tear in the abdomen occurs, as with the other types of torn muscle fibres, most frequently during sporting activity.

If the muscles are stressed too much, e.g. with bodybuilders where often a multiple of the own body weight is lifted or with sports with many fast changes of direction like soccer or tennis, it is possible that the muscle fibers in the abdomen tear. Other causes that favour the development of a rupture of muscle fibres in the abdomen are, for example, a pregnancy in which the abdominal muscles are strongly stretched or coughing in connection with a pregnancy. Since the abdominal muscles are at least partially involved in most movements of the body, patients find a torn muscle fibre extremely strenuous, as many movements cause pain, for example even breathing can be painful.

It is best to take it easy for 3-5 days and to cool the area (some patients also benefit from warmth). You should wait 3-6 weeks before doing sports and only move within the pain threshold. Especially in the abdominal area it is advisable to consult a doctor, because the pain could have other causes.

Calf

The torn muscle fiber in the calf is, in addition to the torn muscle fiber in the thigh, a very common sports injury. Especially soccer players, who have to make many quick changes of direction or get kicks from their opponents are very endangered. But other sports such as jogging, tennis, etc.

are also problematic, especially when the athletes do not warm up or stretch sufficiently and put too much strain on the musculature through excessive training. A torn muscle fiber in the calf, is characterized by severe stabbing pain. It is often not possible to continue the movement and those affected can only limp.

It is therefore especially important to follow the PECH rule and to put the leg up and cool it immediately. Especially at the calf it is very easy to apply a compression bandage to keep a quick one in check and to relieve the pain. Sport must be avoided for 3-6 weeks. Often a reddish bruise forms in the calf in the days after the injury, which is also an external sign of a torn muscle fiber. If the pain does not disappear or increase after 3-5 days, a doctor should be consulted at this point at the latest to rule out possible fiber bundle or muscle tears.
