Further therapeutic measures

Depending on the patient’s symptoms, the treatment options for a patient with a knee tep vary. First and foremost, and especially in the beginning, the pain is in the foreground. To achieve a reduction, massages or cold applications can be used.

Manual lymphatic drainage can be prescribed to minimize swelling and accelerate the healing process, thereby improving the pain situation. Another goal of a knee tep is to maintain and improve the mobility of the knee joint. For this purpose, the joint is mobilized in all directions of movement. Many rehabilitation clinics offer exercise baths.

The water makes it easier to perform movements. Due to the pressure in the water, it has a decongestive effect in the knee and has an effect similar to manual lymph drainage. Also the weight, which has an effect on the operated knee, is significantly reduced. However, infections at the surgical wound or open wounds are not allowed and patients are not allowed to use the exercise bath in this case.

Summary

Total knee endoprosthesis (knee tep) is one of the most common treatment options for patients whose pain and wear and tear situation no longer improves. By supporting physiotherapy, it is intended to lead to a pain-free movement sequence and improve the patient’s everyday situation. Since the structures are severed during the operation, a long healing process takes place, which is supported by physiotherapeutic measures.
