How do I clean the occlusal splint?
The correct care of the occlusal splint is very important because it is worn daily. Both teeth and splint should be brushed immediately after meals, as well as in the morning and evening. Toothpaste is used as a cleaning agent.
In order to prevent the splint from breaking when falling down, you can fill the sink with some water beforehand. You can also use dental tabs for dentures, but you should still clean it with a toothbrush. If the splint is not well maintained, residues can remain on the splint and cause unsightly stains after some time.
These are calcifications, similar to the tartar that forms in the mouth. If the splint is only worn at night, it should be kept in an airtight container during the day. If you take it out during the day to eat, it can be stored in water or a damp cloth.
It is important that the splint never dries out to prevent deformation. A change in the splint can change the position of the teeth.
