Metabolic cure
Carefully separate the metabolic diet from the metabolic cure. This is also called the hCG diet. This is a three-week diet consisting of different phases.
In addition to a calorie-reduced diet, which is based on a low-carbohydrate diet, the emphasis here is on the intake of drops, vitamins and globules. Originally, the pregnancy hormone hCG was supplied in the form of injections. The supposedly important vital substances and vitamins are supposed to support weight loss, minimize the side effects of a reduced calorie intake and cause a strong weight loss.
Behind all this is an industry that makes a lot of money selling the drugs. There are now numerous providers, websites, apps and coaches who market and promote the hCG cure. The original concept from the 1960s envisaged injections with the hormone hCG, which women produce during pregnancy.
Today, participants receive globules, drops or other questionable substances. There is no question that great success can be achieved if the diet is strictly adhered to. However, this is most likely due to the strict limitation to only 500kcal per day. This means that many people are 1000 kcal or more below their daily basal metabolic rate, which leads to weight loss.
The choice of food is also limited to lean meat, fish, vegetables and a few types of fruit. In addition, dairy products and eggs are allowed. The effect of the expensive additional preparations is questionable, however. The costs are with 200 € in the first month and up to 80 € in the following months for the vital substances and additives, besides the costs for coaching or memberships very high.
Kornspitz in the metabolic diet
The Kornspitz diet follows a very similar concept. Kornspitz is a pastry from Austria and is on the diet once a day. The other meals largely correspond to the specifications of the metabolic diet: no other carbohydrates, low-fat and high-protein nutrition. Thus the procedure is comparable, the alleged successes but also the points of criticism addressed are just as similar.
