How is the first tooth properly cared for?
Often the care of the first tooth is neglected or wrongly performed. However, it is essential to get later decay-free milk teeth and to establish a routine for the child. A special fingerling made of silicone from the pharmacy is best suited.
It is equipped with knobs and can be easily cleaned. With the help of this fingerling and a little special toothpaste for the baby, the first tooth can be carefully rubbed in. Some dentists also recommend this only using a little water instead of toothpaste.
However, when using toothpaste, it is important that it is specially designed for the baby’s age. You can also use a soft, short-bristled baby toothbrush instead of the fingerling to clean the first tooth. This cleaning of the tooth should be done twice a day for 10 – 20 sec.
Which toothpaste can be used?
When brushing the baby’s teeth, a toothpaste designed for the baby’s age should be used. This can be chosen in consultation with the treating pediatrician. Toothpastes for babies contain a certain amount of fluoride to prevent tooth decay.
The fluoride content of baby toothpaste should not exceed 500 ppm (parts per million). The maximum value for fluoride intake is 0.05 – 0.07 mg F/kg body weight. Adult toothpastes have a higher fluoride content. Furthermore, a toothpaste without a particularly sweet taste is recommended.Delicious taste tempts babies to swallow them.
How is gum inflammation in babies treated?
Gingivitis in babies can have various causes. Often a viral droplet infection is the reason for the developed inflammation. Furthermore, a lack of oral hygiene can also be the cause of the inflammation.
As a first measure, rinsing with chamomile can help to counteract the inflammation. However, it is very important to consult a doctor who will take a look at the inflammation. In many cases, an antibiotic and a solution for local application in the oral cavity is administered to fight the inflammation. After a few days the inflammation usually subsides under treatment.
